Look around
The House
The Long House was converted in 1979 , from a fishermans' cottage to a two-story house. It lies at the top of a steep lane above the harbour and beach, looking south out of the bay towards Deer Island, and nearer in, Inislacken Island. The house is of whitewashed stone and is simply furnished, with stone and wood floors throughout.
The house has a south-facing garden looking out to sea, and space to park several cars.
Downstairs
Living room/dining area - This has a seating area around a large open fireplace, and behind, a dining table which will seat up to eight people comfortably.
There is no television, but in the cupboard to the right of the fireplace you will find board games and playing cards. There is also a bluetooth speaker system. Wifi is available on request.
Most mobiles work in the house, just make sure you can use yours in Ireland, if you live elsewhere.
There is electric central heating throughout the house. A basket of turf (peat)is supplied if available, and you may use our supply for €40 per week.
Kitchen - this is simple but well equipped, with a comprehensive range of cutlery and crockery.
The cooker has a gas hob and two electric ovens.
There is a dishwasher, and a microwave cooker as well as a fridge-freezer and a vacuum cleaner, brushes, mops…and tea towels in a drawer in the kitchen.
Upstairs
The second floor is reached by an open staircase which has a gate at the top, and is toddler-proof. It has three good sized double bedrooms. There's also a bathroom, with a bath, basin and WC. In the bathroom you'll find a large airing cupboard in which extra bedding is stored, and the hot-water tank.
There are electric blankets on all the beds in the house. We supply duvets, blankets and pillows but not bed-linen at present. This means you should bring your own sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases and towels. There are plenty of extra blankets and bathmats in the airing cupboard. There is also a travel cot, and a high chair.
Do get in touch if you have any special requests or need more information.
Bunk room- This small room on the ground floor sleeps two people in bunk-beds. It's good for children and early risers.
The room next door is a simple shower room with a shower, basin, WC and washing machine.
